A sudden toothache, broken tooth, or swelling can make it difficult to eat, sleep, or focus on your day. At L.E.S. Dental Group, we provide care for dental emergencies in New York, NY, with treatment based on the cause of your symptoms. Our Lower East Side team is here to help you understand what needs attention and what comes next.
Dental emergencies can involve pain, infection, or an injury that puts a tooth at risk. Contact us promptly if you experience:
Severe or persistent tooth pain
A knocked-out or displaced permanent tooth
A cracked or broken tooth, especially with pain or sensitivity
Gum swelling, a painful bump, or drainage near a tooth
A loose or missing filling or crown
Not every concern requires the same response. A small, painless chip may be less urgent than a knocked-out tooth, but it still needs evaluation. Describe your symptoms when you call so we can help determine the next step.
For a toothache or broken tooth, gently rinse with warm water and avoid chewing on the affected side. A cold compress against your cheek may help with swelling. Keep any broken pieces or a lost crown and bring them with you. Do not place aspirin directly on your tooth or gums.
If a permanent tooth is knocked out, hold it by the crown, avoid touching or scrubbing the root, and seek dental care immediately. If it will not go back into the socket easily, keep it moist in milk while getting help. Never put a knocked-out baby tooth back into its socket.
At our New York office, we evaluate the affected area and may take dental X-rays to check for damage or infection. We explain our findings and discuss treatment options with you.
Depending on the problem, care may involve a filling, crown, root canal treatment, or extraction when a tooth cannot be saved. Our goal is to address the source of discomfort and preserve your natural tooth whenever possible. We also explain any follow-up care needed.
Difficulty breathing or swallowing, heavy bleeding that will not stop, or a serious facial or jaw injury requires immediate medical attention. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Do not wait for a dental appointment.
